Read to Get Ready
Family reading is one of the best ways to support your child's language development and academic success!
Stories in the Spotlight provides each family with a thematic reading list for children of all ages to read and enjoy before taking part in the Live Arts Event! The books are easily available at Kansas City Public Library branches. Then, each family that participates in the Family Activity will also get to select a book to take home and keep for follow up reading.

Enjoy A Family Activity
It's time to bring the magic on the page to life with your imagination! Before or after the show, families will explore the groovy world of "Pete the Cat" with a special craft and storytelling experience. Guided by a teaching artist from the Coterie, families will activate the characters from the Pete the Cat books using their body, voice and imagination, create their own Pete-the-Catmoment, take a book with them, and continue the storytelling adventure at home.
Live Arts Experience: Sat. Jun. 13, 2026, 12:00 pm OR 2:00 pm (Show runtime: ~60 minutes)
Hands-On Activity: A drop-in craft station will open in the Theatre Lab on Sat. Jun. 13, 2026, 1:15 pm - 1:50 pm.
Participation in the Family Activity is free of charge to every registered ticket-holder for either the 12:00 pm or 2:00pm show. All ages are welcome!
