Whatever is happening the main character wants to join in and do it too. With support from her family and friends she not only finds she can do it too but soon she is big enough to pass on loving encouragement of her own.
Make text come alive around your home by using a sticky note, index card, or extra piece of paper to label a cup.
Hang the label near a cabinet and discuss the letters and their meaning with your child.
Labeling helps children learn that letters come together to make words and creates a print rich environment in your home.
Flip through the pages of the book with your child. Point to each character. Label the character with their familial role (dad, sister, grandma, grandpa, uncle, mom, friend, neighbor, baby). For each character, discuss the person in your child’s family who fills the role. For example: “This is grandpa. We call your grandpa Pops.” Skip any family members that aren’t applicable to your family.
